Hoshimoto’s Disease Suppressed By Vitamin D

Vitamin D is very important when it comes to maintaining immune system homeostasis.  The body is able to create this balance by using vitamin D to support regulatory T cells.  Regulatory T cells play a key roll in the suppression of the immune response of other cells.  When an invader has been destroyed regulatory T cells will stop the immune response from continuing.  Being able to properly evaluate the levels of vitamin D in our patient is especially important when that patient has been diagnosed with the autoimmune disease Hashimoto’s.  When regulatory T cells are not supported by proper systemic levels of vitamin D in the body, people with Hashimoto’s are much more likely to experience the devastating effect that take place when the immune response attacks healthy tissue.  It has been found that 90% of people with autoimmune thyroid disease have a genetic defect that prevents them from properly processing vitamin D.  This means that they need to have a higher intake of vitamin D to properly maintain immune system homeostasis.  It is also important to understand that vitamin D can be very dangerous if taken improperly.  Please consult with a licensed health care professional before beginning vitamin D therapy.

Food Allergies – Look For The Protein Source

Reading labels and becoming a food expert can be very confusing sometimes.  As you learn how to eat better for your disease you need to become an expert at reading labels.  For instance when a patient’s test comes back positive for a food allergy, let’s use soy as an example, it is typically the protein in soy that is the allergic component.  So, if a label reads that it contains soy lecithin-lecithin is the FAT from soy, not PROTEIN, than there should not be an allergic reaction to this food.
