Plano Chiropractor Offers Non-Surgical Solution To Chronic Back Pain
As an experienced chiropractor, Dr. Malay of North Dallas Spine & Total Health, and her team see many people with chronic lower back pain that extends beyond a 90-day period. Usually this occurs when when someone has had previous back pain issues. Too often Dr. Malay and her team see patients with spinal stenosis, degenerative disc or herniated discs. These types of health problems make life too painful to perform everyday tasks let alone get enough exercise to stay healthy.
Among the many treatment options such as pain pills, muscle relaxers, acupuncture, physical therapy, exercise and surgery, patients often exhaust these possibilities and are left with their pain not knowing what else to do.
Fortunately, with today’s technology, there is a non-surgical treatment that chiropractors can offer their patients. The DRX9000 is considered superior in its class. Dr. Malay knows the benefits of this machine and has invested the money to offer her patients the very best. Her staff is well-trained in how the machine works and the advantage the technology delivers to patients that suffer with chronic back pain. If you’ve tried the less expensive alternatives and are not prepared to go “under the knife,” call Plano chiropractor, Dr. Malay, to see if you qualify for DRX9000 treatments.

Plano Chiropractor Offers Suggestions For Good Spinal Health
Dr. Malay, Plano chiropractor, offers these tips
Your mother’s reminders to ‘stand up straight’ really were for your good. The problems caused by poor posture bring people to our practice daily. Lack of correct posture is often caused by lifestyles and events such as constantly bending forward for work, standing on your feet for long periods of time, high-heels, obesity and pregnancy. Excessive strain on muscles in the back and hamstrings causes pain or causes them to relax and not do the work for which they were intended. The American Chiropractic Association offers the following tips for proper sitting, standing and lying down to avoid strain and injury:
Sitting properly
• Keep your feet on the floor or on a footrest, if they don’t reach the floor.
• Don’t cross your legs. Your ankles should be in front of your knees.
• Keep a small gap between the back of your knees and the front of your seat.
• Your knees should be at or below the level of your hips.
• Adjust the backrest of your chair to support your low- and mid-back or use a back support.
• Relax your shoulders and keep your forearms parallel to the ground.
• Avoid sitting in the same position for long periods of time.
Standing properly
• Bear your weight primarily on the balls of your feet.
• Keep your knees slightly bent.
• Keep your feet about shoulder-width apart.
• Let your arms hang naturally down the sides of the body.
• Stand straight and tall with your shoulders pulled backward.
• Tuck your stomach in.
• Keep your head level-your earlobes should be in line with your shoulders. Do not push your head forward, backward, or to the side.
• Shift your weight from your toes to your heels, or one foot to the other, if you have to stand for a long time.
• A quick tip for correct standing posture is to hold arms straight down at your side and rotate your hands outward, effectively having your palms face forward. Your shoulders will be put into correct position.
Lying down
• Find the mattress that is right for you. While a firm mattress is generally recommended, some people find that softer mattresses reduce their back pain. Your comfort is important.
• Sleep with a pillow. Special pillows are available to help with postural problems resulting from a poor sleeping position.
• Avoid sleeping on your stomach.
• Sleeping on your side or back is more often helpful for back pain.
• If you sleep on your side, place a pillow between your legs.
• If you sleep on your back, keep a pillow under your knees.
If you have chronic pain due to posture issues, it is possible to get help and eliminate or reduce pain. Start by beginning to follow the guidelines above. An appointment with us can help you with needed adjustments and exercise and/or postural suggestions to put you back on the path to wellness.

Are You Suffering From Hypothyroidism
Many people with hypothyroidism are never diagnosed as having a problem. What’s even more unfortunate is that those that have been diagnosed with a thyroid problem receive insufficient treatment. This epidemic is sometimes referred to as a hidden issue that can go undetected for many years.
When your thyroid is not functioning properly, if affects many areas of your body and can show up in many ways such as:
- weight gain

- hair loss
- memory trouble
- infertility
- high cholesterol
- low libido
- gum disease
- dry skin/acne/eczema
- cold hands and feet
- characteristically poor hair and nails
- lethargy
- constipation
- irregular menstruation
So where is your thyroid and what purpose does it serve for your body?
Your thyroid gland is located in the front of your neck. It is part of your hormonal system that manufactures the master metabolism hormones that control your bodily functions. When your thyroid is not functioning properly, it can literally wreak havoc with your body causing widespread diseases and inferior symptoms.
Part of the problem with diagnosing hypothyroidism is that many symptoms overlap with other symptoms and may go unrecognized as a result. According to Dr. Mercola, world-renowned doctor on natural health living, tells patients that checking your lab tests using his suggested standards are one area to check to determine if you are suffering from hypothyroidism:
• TSH — the high-sensitivity version. This is the BEST test. But beware most all of the “normal” ranges are simply dead wrong. The ideal level for TSH is between 1 and 1.5 mIU/L (milli-international units per liter)
• Free T4 and Free T3. The normal level of free T4 is between 0.9 and 1.8 ng/dl (nanograms per deciliter). T3 should be between 240 and 450 pg/dl (picograms per deciliter).
• Thyroid antibodies, including thyroid peroxidase antibodies and anti-thyroglobulin antibodies. This measure helps determine if your body is attacking your thyroid, overreacting to its own tissues (ie, autoimmune reactions). Physicians nearly always leave this test out.
• For more difficult cases TRH can be measured (thyroid releasing hormone) using the TRH stimulation test. TRH helps identify hypothyroidism that’s caused by inadequacy of the pituitary gland.
Diet and exercise play a key role in resolving thyroid issues. But other factors play a role too such as reducing your stress and possibly taking supplements. If you have one or more of the symptoms we have described and suspect you suffer from thyroid problems, contact Dr. Jade Malay. Dr. Malay will help determine what treatments can work best for your body.

Prevention Of Low Back Pain Episodes
Often times when people experience back pain, they want to baby their body with rest. While this is often a very good idea, if done for more than a couple of days, it may end up being counterproductive. There are some exercises that are essential to restore and retain good spinal health while alleviating the low back pain.
Why is exercise necessary?
Active back exercises dispense nutrients into the soft tissue and disc space. This distribution assists in keeping the muscles, discs and joints in a healthy state. Regular back exercises help patients reduce weakening of the lower back and preventing future occurrences of pain.
Prevention of low back pain episodes
The benefits of stretching the ligaments, muscles and tendons around the spine, legs and buttocks may help prevent forthcoming pain in the back. Although it may take weeks, even months, many will find the benefits of regular stretching helps sustain good health and minimize or eliminate back pain altogether.
Some tips to effective stretching:
- Take it slow and do not force your body into contortions
- Do not bounce which may tear muscles
- Allow muscles/joints to become free by holding stretches for 30 seconds at a time
