Healthy Foods Promote A Healthy Spine
Everyone knows that healthy eating is just part of a good lifestyle. But did you know that the foods you eat can affect your back?
All foods provide some energy. However, there are certain types of foods, known as power foods, that offer your muscles the energy they need to sustain vitality for hours and provide your muscles what they need to support your back.
Foods that provide sustainable power are those low in simple sugars and fat but high in complex carbohydrates. That added with the dynamic combination of vitamins and minerals provide your body the ability to release all that energy from the healthy foods.
Natural foods that fall into the power food category are whole-wheat breads, whole-grain cereals, raw fruits and vegetables. Eating these food types also help control cholesterol as well as control the symptoms of diabetes.
Nourishing throughout the day
Did you know that by the time you hit the snooze button, approximately 95% of your reserve energy has been depleted by your body – primarily the brain and other major organs? That’s why you’ve heard that breakfast is the single most important meal to start your day.
Contrary to what you may feel, it is best to eat meals when you are a bit hungry. This will help you maintain energy throughout the day giving you full advantage to control your weight. In fact, about 5 to 6 smaller meals are better than the traditional 3 meals a day.

Complications With Diabetes – Plano
Every year diabetics are prescribed drugs to help them with their symptoms of elevated blood sugar. Currently, almost 26 million Americans are diagnosed and deal with the complications of diabetes of which the vast majority are type 2 diabetics.
Type 2 diabetes is caused by a resistance to insulin as well as a damaged leptin signaling. Over the past several decades, lifestyle changes in the types of foods American are consuming – high carbohydrates – have played a key factor to the decline of good health.
Surges in insulin occurs when there is high blood glucose levels thus causing insulin-resistance. A proper diet plan with supplements can help prevent those surges and restore proper leptin signaling.
Some simple but not easy lifestyle changes you can do to begin to reverse your complications of type 2 diabetes:
1) Exercise
This has many benefits but for diabetics, this is a must. The exercises you choose must be high-intensity and build muscle. Begin slowly and work your way up to at least 30 minutes daily.
2) Diet
Limit sugar, trans fats and grains. Talk to Dr. Malay to understand the importance of this step. She will discuss what works for your body and lifestyle.
3) Rest
Quality sleep is an important factor in assuring physical and mental health.
Tingling Feet And Hands
Peripheral neuropathy is a common type of diabetic neuropathy. Symptoms of peripheral neuropathy include painful tingling in the feet or hands which may involve burning or throbbing. Nerve damage may have no initial signs. In fact, it may be several years before symptoms are noticeable. During this timeframe, the nerve damage gets worse since it goes untreated.
The American Diabetes Association reports that about half of the people with diabetes have some form of diabetic neuropathy which comes to approximately 6.1 million Americans that suffer from this condition. Unfortunately, over the counter medicines like aspirin do not resolve the nerve pain.
If you are diabetic but experience no nerve pain
Diabetics should work to keep their blood pressure and blood glucose under control. Because you are unable to feel the nerve damage in your feet, it may be difficult to detect an injury. Regular foot exams should be done by your doctor, but there are ways to prevent the complications of peripheral neuropathy:
- Wear footwear all the time to prevent injury
- Wear properly fitting footwear
- Scrutinize feet and legs every day
- Apply lotion to dry feet
- Take care of your nails
If you are already experiencing nerve pain
If you feel your daily activities have been impaired by diabetic neuropathy (already show signs of nerve damage) you may be a candidate for our laser treatment with the Avicenna Laser that stabilizes and rebuilds the nerves. Patients often feel the treatments reduce their pain during the sessions.

Help Protect Your Heart With Vitamin K
If you have been told to take calcium and vitamin D, it is imperative to be sure you are not deficient in vitamin K otherwise you could be at risk of cardiovascular disease. Both vitamins K and D work congruently by preventing blood vessels from calcifying. Without enough of these vitamins, plaque can build up in your heart leading to a heart attack. According to Mercola.com:
Vitamin K2 activates a protein hormone called osteocalcin, produced by osteoblasts, which is needed to bind calcium into the matrix of your bone. Osteocalcin also appears to help prevent calcium from depositing into your arteries. In other words, without the help of vitamin K2, the calcium that your vitamin D so effectively lets in might be working AGAINST you — by building up your coronary arteries rather than your bones.
Improved bone density has been attributed to vitamin K intake since it attaches the calcium to the bones. This same vitamin can serve many other significant purposes such as prevent many forms of cancers and prevent progression of varicose veins. Limited research has shown that for diabetics, higher vitamin K intakes can help decrease the progression of their resistance to insulin. Those folks with the appropriate levels of vitamin K, had a notable lower risk of diabetes.
The best way to intake vitamin K is, of course, through what nature offers you. The foods high in vitamin K include green vegetables such as spinach, collard greens, broccoli - will increase K1 levels. Cheese and cheese curd provides the necessary vitamin K2
