Headaches And Neck Pain
One of the most common complaints are headaches. Not so common is the intensity of the pain as they vary from person to person. Some of the most common symptoms of headaches are listed as:
Tension Headaches – resulting from stress
Chronic Tension Headaches – happens 15 or more days a month
Affects: Front, top or sides of the head
Intensity: Varies throughout the day but is almost always present
Timeframe: Come and go over a prolonged period
Episodic Tension Headaches
Affects: Front, top or sides of the head.
Intensity: Mild to moderate with throbbing beginning slowly (usually mid-day)
Timeframe: Lasts from half an hour to several days
Migraines
Affects: Can affect the entire head shifting from one side to the other
Intensity: Moderate to severe pain with sensitivity to light, noise or odors. Other symptoms include blurred vision, loss of appetite, nausea/vomiting, abdominal pain, paleness, dizziness, fever, fatigue
Cluster Headaches
Affects: Concentrated pain located behind one eye (or eye region) with pain lasting half an hour to 90 minutes, possibly longer. The headaches are described as having a piercing/burning sensation that is constant or throbbing. They sometimes come back up to three per day.
Intensity: usually the headaches will come around the same time very day.
Sinus Headaches
Affects: Profound and consistent pain around the checkbones, bridge of the nose or forehead with intensity over sudden movements. Sinus headaches are usually accompanied with nasal discharge, fever and swelling on the face.
Some research has shown that spinal manipulation may prove to be an effective treatment for tension headaches and neck pain. The spinal treatments showed almost immediate improvement for headaches that started in the neck with fewer side effects for tension headaches.
